#8 The Disturbing Fan Following
One might think that 4 decades in prison is some major 'alone' time. But sadly that isn't the case for Charles Manson. He received more fan mail than any other prisoner in the US. Which brings forward the question- What the hell is wrong with his fan base?!
Manson is said to have received over 60,000 fan mail annually with numerous requests for meet and greets. Also, there's a website celebrating the life of Charles Mansion with a mailing address mentioned for anyone who wishes to write him.
Yikes!

#7 'Not Mentally Ill"
Manson is repeatedly denied parole with the board saying that he "continues to pose an unreasonable danger to others and may still bring harm to anyone he would come in contact with."
Despite having been declared as not mentally ill, Manson's attorney, DeJon R. Lewis says Manson doesn't need incarceration but should be moved to a mental hospital.

#6 The Escape Planning
In 1980, Charles Manson took a job in the penitentiary's chapel. When the prison guards found the doors locked from the inside using electric wire cable, they broke open the door to find Manson and a couple of other inmates plotting to escape the prison using a hot air balloon. When the guards later searched Manson's cell they found a prison-fashioned blade made from a piece of scrap metal.

#5 Contraband
Craig Hammond aka Grey Wolf, a 63-year-old man moved all the way to California to be near Manson, a man who he considered possessed "deep insight into environmental issues." In 2013, he was caught trying to sneak in a wristwatch cell phone to a meeting with his idol.
Actually, there were numerous instances when Manson was found with cellphones inside the prison.

#4 Trouble
Manson was found smuggling musical tapes out of the Vacaville mental facility. These tapes contained his own recorded music which he wanted his acquaintances to market and distribute to the world.

#3 Burns
Manson in 1984, suffered burns over 18 percent of his body after being doused with paint thinner and set on fire by a fellow inmate while working in the psychiatric prison's hobby shop. His assailant Jan Holmstrom claimed god asked him to kill Manson.

#2 Drugs
Even in prison, Manson found numerous ways to break the laws. In June 1997, upon an internal investigation conducted by Corcoran State Prison officials, Manson was found guilty of trafficking drugs in prison.

#1 Engagement
Charles Manson was engaged to 27-year-old Afton Elaine Burton (aka "Star") until it came to an abrupt end in 2015 when their pending marriage license expired. It was revealed that Burton who is 53 years younger to Manson wanted to marry Manson only to gain custody of his body and display it to the world for financial gain.
