Scaling large heights has become a passion for many over past few decades, and you might be aware of those who have scaled the highest peaks. However, there are many untold stories about ones who lost their lives while scaling Mount Everest, and their bodies have been waiting to be recovered to date.
Those moments when all the odds were against them, when breathing became a task, one can imagine how difficult it would be to survive in that chilly environment. Many trekkers have lost their lives in an attempt to achieve their dream but their bodies lay there frozen waiting to be pulled out.
Here are some such cases we have collected for you.
Green Boots
Body with Green Boots of Indian climber Tsewang Paljor is the most famous landmark on the Mount Everest. The climber got separated from his group in the year 1996 and took shelter in the cave where he took his last breath.
Several other mountaineers use this famous landmark to gauge their path to the summit.
Sleeping Beauty
Francys Arsentiev, an American Climber, lost her life due to frostbite while she got separated from her husband on the mountain in 1999. The couple climbed the summit without supplemental oxygen and were descending when the disaster struck. Her husband died falling off the cliff but no one knows where.
For years, her body in a purple jacket lay in the open which is why she was named the “sleeping beautyâ€.
Body of First Climber
George Mallory who was on an expedition to Everest in 1924 lost his life and could not be identified until the year 1999.
Had he survived, he would have been known as the first person to climb to the top.
That was Her Last Sleep
German Climber, Hannelore Schmatz lost her life due to extreme exposure and frostbite in the year 1976.
Some people say that Schmats tried to reach the camp but stopped only 330ft from that camp because of exhaustion.
The Rainbow Valley
This is a Northeast Ridge of the Mount Everest, near the summit, with a number of dead climbers all wearing colorful jackets, and you will see corpses all around the mountain.
The Ghost Snowboarded on Everest
The French Snowboarder, Marco Siffredi, was the first man to successfully snowboard down the Everest in 2001. However, he wanted to snowboard down the Hornbein Coulier, which eventually led to his death.
The Darkest Hour
Yasuko Namba, at the age of 47, was the oldest woman to climb Everest. In 1996, while climbing down, she was struck by a blizzard which trapped many climbers. The search parties which came twice left thinking her to be dead and she later died somewhere on the mountain.
There are some more unidentified bodies lying on the mountain peak and we can just pray for the departed souls.
