Photographer Finds Locations Of 1960's Postcards To See How They Look Today

These days photographers have some unique interests just like photographer of our story, Pablo Iglesias Maurer who likes to travel throughout the country and search for abandoned places. His search is not for any monument or forgotten culture but for the objects which were true landmarks of luxury some time ago.

But, what was that he was so much interested in?

Pablo saw an old matchbook from the 1960s featuring a resort in Pennsylvania. The building, a golf course in Penn Hills Resort, was a ruin. He found the same swimming pool on the matchbox as he saw in the resort and then took a shot from the same line as in the original picture which sparked the entire photo series called “Abandoned States”.

Grossinger’s Indoor Tennis Center

The back of this postcard has an ad for Grossinger’s rye bread and the resort owner expressed his feelings like

"The fun and fresh air people get here at Grossinger's really gives them an appetite. They love all of our food - and a particular favorite is our Grossinger's rye and pumpernickel bread. Now you can get this same healthy, flavorful bread at your local food store. Try a loaf. I'm sure you'll love it."

Lifeguard Chair-

Lifeguards were always the favorite guys on the beach. Surprisingly, in the picture, you can see the chair and a part of the dock still stands.

Main Building At Poconos Resort

When the fire destroyed the main building at this resort, a replacement came up in the early 70's which is amazing.

Homowack Lodge

The Homowack Lodge, on the southern edge of the famed "Borscht Belt", now stands abandoned and had a four-lane Brunswick bowling alley as its main attraction.

Attendant

That is the photo of the lane attendant at the Homowack lodge in the Catskills.

Theme Park

Maurer photographed sites like this old Wizard of Oz theme park in North Carolina connecting people from the world who visited this place earlier in the past.

Swimming Pool At Grossinger’s – 1958

The indoor pool at Grossinger's had Elizabeth Taylor and Florence Chadwick attending its opening ceremony. The place which is a ruin now was a beautiful place to spend holidays.
