We all are educated enough to know that A comes first and then comes B which is followed by C. But still, in our computers, your internal default drive is 'C'. How many of us have actually asked the reason behind this to computer experts around us?

Why can't our default drive be A or B? If you are an engineer, chances are high that you know the answer but in case you aren't an engineer, don't worry, we'll tell you the reason ahead.

#2 Floppy Discs

So it all started when the first ever computer was released. Initially, it didn't had the internal storage space of 500gb or 1tb. It merely had a few kb's.

Therefore, people had to use floppy disks to store important stuff. Floppy discs were like your present day external hard drives. To expand the storage, or store more files, floppy disks were utilized.

Now the question is, what happened next that our default internal storage was named 'C'?

In the past, one could add both the floppies as a drive in the computer. Hence, the drives were named 'A' and 'B'. No slowly, due to advancement in technology, floppies slowly became out of fashion and were replaced by external hard drives.

But the letters of the hard drives within the computer remained same. And therefore, your default hard drive is still 'C'.
